75,000 years ago, two dudes named Gronk and Fragg were hanging out in the African Savanna.
Despite being completely different, Gronk and Fragg were best friends.
Fragg spent his days sitting on a rock meditating, and "sending positive vibes."
His motto was, "If you give love, you'll get love."
Fragg wasn't worried about anything.
Gronk, on the other hand, wasn't as cavalier.
Gronk was always on edge. His motto was, "Holy shit, run!"
One day, as Fragg was meditating on his rock and sending positive vibes to every corner of the universe, Gronk heard a sound.
"You hear that?" Gronk said to Fragg. "That's a saber tooth tiger, bro."
Fragg replied with, "It's cool man. If we don't bother it, it won't bother us."
Gronk heard the tiger unleash a roar from hell, and could tell it was getting closer.
"Holy shit, run!" Gronk wailed.
But Fragg said, "Namaste right here bro. I want to pet the tiger."
Well, Fragg died that day.
It turns out the tiger didn't want to be petted. It was just hungry, and Fragg looked like lunch.
But Gronk followed his own advice and ran for it.
Eventually, he found a wife and made some cave babies.
Those cave babies inherited their dads stress response to danger, and 75,000 years later...
...here you are.
Congratulations, your lineage has survived forever, and you've got the same stress response that kept your ancestors safe since the beginning of time.
Only, it isn't as useful as it once was.
There are hardly any existential threats, and our world is, for the most part, quite safe.
But that same stress response... the one that told your ancestors to run for it when a saber tooth tiger came looking for a snack...has been hijacked by things like email, deadlines, busy schedules, and the news.
You're walking around all day, every day, as if you're about to die.
No wonder you come home at the end of the day feeling so drained.
That stress is weighing you down, and ultimately, keeping you from burning fat and building muscle.
It's draining the energy you could be dedicating to workouts.
It's affecting your sleep, throwing your hormones out of whack, and making you feel terrible.
And of course, to combat that stress, you eat.
Sweets, crunchy stuff, salty stuff.... anything to make you feel better.
Give yourself a break. Understand that you have this stress response built in, and it was once a crucial aspect to your ancestors survival.
It's all good, and it's not your fault.
When I work with clients, we get some pretty incredible results.
(Check those results out here)
Now, that has less to do with me, and more to do with our systems.
We use a 5 pillar system which allows us to not only optimize workouts and nutrition, but also stress levels, sleep quality and mental fitness.
We take deliberate action towards minimizing stress so my clients can go all-in on their workouts, eliminate those annoying junk-food binges that set back progress, and feel amazing all day long.
That means they burn fat, build muscle, and feel happier. It's a pretty amazing combo.
Now, which action works the best for stress relief depends on the individual.
Some people love meditation, journaling, or long walks. Others like adult coloring books, hot baths, or sitting outside with a coffee and a good book.
The point is, you find your bliss, then schedule it into your day, guilt-free. (I can't emphasize 'guilt-free' enough)
Listen, you inherited one hell of a powerful stress response from Gronk.
But you won't achieve your lean, strong body without learning how to control it.
Pick an activity that melts your stress away, schedule it in, and do it daily.
You deserve it, and your ideal body and health depends on it.
