Today, we're focused on one thing, and one thing only.
It's all about the grind. When someone asks us how we'red doing, we say "Busy!", with a sense of pride.
The grind leaves us stressed out, exhausted, and in pain. But it's OK, that's how you become successful.
But sometimes it can be too much. The grind takes it's toll, and it beats us down physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Of course, the grind doesn't stop, so neither can we. We need to stay in the game, no matter how severely it beats us down.
We jUst need Some Relief
The United States makes up about 5% of the world's population. Yet we consume 80% of the world's Opioids. (1) (2)
Percs, Oxys, Vikes, and the big boy on the block, Fentanyl.
We're handing these things out like candy, and with devastating affects.
Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of death in Americans under 50, 2/3 of them from opioids. (3) In 2016, more Americans died from overdoses than in the Iraq and Vietnam war combined.
Heroin alone is responsible for more deaths in 2015 than gun related homicides. (4)
Who's consuming all these drugs? It may not be who you think.
The majority of opioids are consumed by regular, working class people.
People who are out there crushing it. Getting work done at all costs. Keeping up with the Jones's. Sacrificing everything to maintain their hectic schedule.
And these people need some relief.
Relief from stress, from depression, from anxiety, from pain, and from life. (5)
Here, take this...
The opioid crisis may not affect all of us, but the "Here, take this pill" attitude that created it does.
We want fast, easy fixes. We've got stuff to do, and no time to waste.
As soon as our body sends us a warning shot, we ask "What can I take for that?"
Being a fitness and lifestyle pro, I get a lot of questions about things like fat loss, better sleep, and stress reduction.
Unfortunately, most of them start with, "What supplement should I take for..."
Whatever we face--poor sleep, stress, pain, anxiety-- our first instinct is to slap a band-aid on it and get back to the same grind that's causing us the issues in the first place.
"Speed is one of the diseases of modern man, because it has made impossible many things which can only happen in patience." -Osho
Quick story: When I was 8, my school rolled out a new way to discipline the kids.
They were called Blue Sheets, and they struck fear in the heart of every kid who was threatened with one.
Each Blue Sheet had to be signed by our parents. And if you got three of them in a school year, you were automatically suspended.
Well, I quickly racked up two Blue Sheets. Fighting, being late to class, the usual stuff.
But my heart sunk when I got my third one. This means I'm suspended. And that means my parents will kill me.
But the suspension never came. Not only that, but I heard through the grape vine someone in my class had as many as 50 Blue Sheets with no suspension.
The system was bullshit. A facade.
And so is the way we kill ourselves for the grind.
We don't need to keep up with the Jones's. We don't need a bigger pile of stuff. We don't need to worry about our legacy (I mean, Julius Caesar conquered the world with a sword, and all he got was a salad), and in most cases, we don't need pills to find relief.
It's all a trick. A distraction from life itself.
We're sacrificing our bodies, our happiness, and our life for the sake of getting more shit done. And it doesn't need to be that way.
The Complete Approach to Fitness
Fitness isn't limited to great looking abs and glutes.
When we talk about fitness, we use it in the Darwinian sense. That means we take a complete approach to fitness, and that includes physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Our clients look great, but they also sleep better, have less stress, feel happier, and take time to refill their figurative cup.
But don't get me wrong. Most of our clients are professionals. They earn big checks, and they maintain busy schedules.
But they don't kill themselves for it. Instead, they take care of themselves first, so they can experience life in a grounded, peaceful, healthy, and happy state.
How do they do it? How do they crush it at work, take care of their family, and maintain peak physical, mental, and emotional well-being?
There are many paths that will get you there, but here are a few of the most effective, science-backed ways to reduce pain, while improving physical, mental, and emotional health.
No More Self-Sacrifice
We're tired, stressed out, overwhelmed, and in pain.
And right now, our solutions are killing us.
It doesn't need to be that way. We don't need to give up our happiness, health, and well-being for the sake of productivity.
Instead, we can have it all.
Shifting our focus from, "What can I take?" to one of self love, self care, and a complete approach to fitness will allow you to be productive, while feeling stronger, healthier, happier, and of course, in less pain.
