"Adopt the pace of nature. Her virtue is patience" - Ralph Waldo Emmerson
Have you ever slid off track while working on getting leaner, stronger or more muscular?
If so, you're not the first or the last.
It even happens to me from time to time, and this is my passion.
Listen. It has nothing to do with your determination or will power.
I see this way too often. Someone will come to me looking for some help, and they'll tell me that their problem is they lack determination or will power.
First of all, don't ever let anyone tell you that you lack determination or will power. I don't believe it for a second, and you shouldn't either.
More important, don't tell that story to yourself. That's self sabotage, and it's a story that just isn't true.
The issue, more than likely is a lack of patience, and this can be remedied easily by redirecting your focus.
Way too many people feel like they will look and perform better than 99% of the entire world after a year of training. Coming in with these expectations will lead to discouragement.
If you've ever tried training hard and fueling your body with quality nutrition while feeling discouraged, then you know that it just doesn't work.
Try this instead.
Take your eyes off the prize, and focus on the actions.....focus on the things...that will get you to the prize. Keep you eyes on the very next step, not 1000 steps in the future.
Most important, fall in love with this process.
There's one thing I've learned in my experiences, and that is the journey is the destination. Always.
Keep this in mind; you're in a continuous, never ending process of evolution. The process is the prize, and just by embarking on it ,means you're becoming stronger, leaner and healthier.
Be quick to pat yourself on the back, acknowledge your victories, no matter how small, and be patient.
The Jacked Hipster is dedicated to inspiring your personal progress and evolution. We do this through fitness, nutrition and lifestyle changes.
